The Konan 9000 Non-Con Robo Pachy is a specular microscope. This is a specialized instrument that allows us to closely examine the cell layer (the endothelium) that lines the inside of the cornea. It takes a high mignification image of this cell layer and provides information regarding the shape and distribution of these cells along with an accurate count of the cellular density. This information is important in certain patients with corneal endothelial dystrophies and in patients that are considering intraocular surgery. This instrument is also used to assess how well a patient's eye is tolerating contact lenses. Changes in this cell layer can warn the doctor that contacts are not fitting properly and can help us determine if contact wearing schedules need to be adjusted, if contacts need to be refit or if they should simply be discontinued.
